Road to renewal: Heywood’s Bell flourishes within Indigenous Marathon Project
JUST months after joining the Indigenous Marathon Project’s 2016 cohort Heywood’s Billy Bell has continued to make great strides towards a better life for both himself, his family and his community.
Starting up in 2011, the IMP is a Federal Government backed program which takes amateur Indigenous athletes from around Australia and offers them training and development towards becoming community leaders and role models, with the program centred on training for long distance running challenges.
With camps in Canberra, the Gold Coast and Sydney so far competed and a trip to Alice Springs just weeks away, the IMP’s schedule concludes with a group trip the New York City Marathon in November.
After applying for the IMP in January, Bell became the second person from Heywood to go through the program after cousin Jessica Lovett-Murray in 2015.
