High flying Bell sets off on New York odyssey
THE bags are packed and the wait is over for Heywood’s Billy Bell with the Indigenous Marathon Project making its final preparations ahead of the New York City Marathon on November 6.
After joining the program back in February Bell has ticked off training camps and long-distance events in Canberra, Gold Coast, Sydney and Alice Springs and after one final two-day preparation camp in New South Wales, will board a plane on Wednesday bound for the United States.
Following his arrival in New York City Bell will undergo final groundwork before taking off alongside an expected crowd of more than 50,000 runners in the world’s biggest long distance running event.
The second person from Heywood to take part in the IMP, following the path set by cousin Jessica Lovett-Murray in 2015, Bell said nervousness was largely absent and the excitement was immeasurable.
