Sports fund nears amazing milestone
THE Portland and District Junior Sports Fund is within reach of a remarkable milestone and over the coming weeks is keen to identify the next fortunate recipients.
Operating since 2004 as a voluntary workplace contribution scheme by Keppel Prince workers, the Sports Fund has contributed $97,000 to young up and coming sports stars.
With just $3000 to go until the major six-figure sum is hit the Sports Fund is keen to identify clubs or individuals on the lookout for community support over the coming weeks.
In the past the Sports Fund has supported a number of prominent local athletes, including cycling star Shannon Malseed, discus national champion Harry Punton and speedway national title holder Angus Hollis.
According to Sports Fund chairman Darren Chapple everyone associated with the program is thrilled to be so close to such a big achievement.
