Community digs deep for Relay For Life
HAMILTON was a sea of purple and yellow over the weekend as teams rallied together to raise over $30,000 for the Cancer Council at the Relay for Life event.
With just short of four weeks left of donations and fundraising, it seems that once again, the greater Hamilton community have united to make a great change.
19 teams registered for the event with over 311 participants taking part in the 18 hour walk with nine teams raising more than $1000.
Cancer Council representative, Michelle Lau, spoke about the event and mentioned that $30,552.59 was recorded in donations at the closing ceremony of the event.
The Taylor Motors team took out the ‘Best Batten’ award with a decorated spanner being the identifier for their team.
The award for Best Camp site was given to ‘The A team’ and the ‘Roscoe Avenue Childcare Centre’ team was determined the Best Dressed team.
After raising a total of $6000.75, ‘Groovy Peeps’ were awarded the highest team fundraiser and the award for Spirit of Relay which is awarded to a team that “truly embodies what relay is about.”
The ‘Goovy Peeps’ team was formed only 12 days before the event and had 26 team members pull together to raise funds.
