Sport’s $100,000 gift – Portland and District Junior Sports Fund notches milestone
IT started small, but now, a group of Portland workers who donate weekly to support young district sports participants, has ticked over $100,000 in donations.
The Portland and District Junior Sports Fund celebrated the milestone on Friday with the allocation of three $1000 grants.
The Sports Fund started as a voluntary workplace contribution program in 2004 amongst Keppel Prince’s on-site employees at the Portland Aluminium smelter and continues today.
“At the moment we have close to 80 members contributing anything between $1 and $5 per week,” Sports Fund chairman Darren Chapple said.
