Preparations well under way for Anzac Day
ANZAC Day in Portland will be marked on Tuesday with two services and marches, and a floral tribute at the Memorial Triangle.
The day’s observations will begin with a march from the RSL sub branch, 21 Percy St, to the Memorial Triangle via Gawler St, followed by a dawn service from 6.35am.
This year the service will be commemorating the 15 district soldiers who lost their lives in France in 1917.
This year’s guest speaker at the 10.30am service is Canberra-based writer Anthony Hill, author of 18 books for adults and young readers.
Mr Hill’s most recent work is an expanded version of his 2005 best seller Animal Heroes, which explored the tales of some of the animals that served with Australia’s armed forces through a series of short stories.
