Area agreement close to finalisation
THE finalisation of a new area agreement between the Portland Junior Football Association and the South West District Football League is close at hand according to PJFA president Selwyn Jones.
The agreement, which controls the number of permit games a junior player may take part in with South West clubs, was altered preseason by the junior association, but met with protest from South West clubs.
Jones said talks had been held with South West league president Chrissy Hawker and AFL Western District commissioner Clarkston Ray to resolve the issue.
“The Portland juniors modified their policy for their area agreement preseason, reducing the number of games the players are accessible from eight to four,” Jones said.
“It was met with valid protests from South West clubs that it wasn’t practical; in light of that feedback we went back and continued to discuss to ensure we have a policy that’s reasonable and practical for everyone.
“That brings us to the work we’ve done behind the scenes with myself, Chrissy Hawker and Clarkston Ray to come up with a proposal that is favourable for everyone.”
