OWNER VOWS TO CONTINUE
HAMILTON man Peter Radley remained determined to continue operation after a fierce blaze caused $100,000 worth of damage to his Coleraine Rd boat and trailer business on Thursday afternoon.
The fire, believed to have been started by a workshop angle grinder, destroyed Radley’s of Hamilton’s office, trailer parts department and some of its main workshop.
The blaze, attended by at least five fire trucks and other CFA vehicles, caused small internal explosions and billowed black smoke across Coleraine Rd, which was blocked off by police for more than three hours after it took hold about 3pm.
Power in the area was off for a similar period of time after a line running past the front of Radley’s caught fire and fell.
As the blaze took hold in the workshop at the rear of the business’ office, employees of neighbouring enterprises in the light industrial area helped move valuable boats and trailers away from the flames.
Mr Radley himself was seen removing a large gas cylinder for a forklift away from the fire.
