Finals for Branxholme-Wallacedale after 11-year hiatus
THE longest South West District Football League finals drought came to close on Saturday, with Branxholme-Wallacedale defeating Tyrendarra 8.11 (59) to 6.4 (40) and securing a top five spot.
Played out in Branxholme, the round 16 result will take the Saints to finals for the first time since 2006.
For Tyrendarra however the loss brings about the end of an uphill season, leaving the team stranded in sixth spot on the ladder and unable to defend its premiership from last year.
Entering the match with a keen focus on defensive efforts, the Saints grabbed a hold on the contest in the first term with three goals to Tyrendarra’s one.
