HAMILTON Police were left “extremely disappointed” after a drink driver lost control behind the wheel of a vehicle and crashed into the fence of a local caravan park on Sunday morning, narrowly missing a sleeping resident.
At around 2.15am, a 33-year-old Hamilton man was unable to navigate a sharp bend on High St after speeding off from patrolling police a short time earlier.
He crashed into the fence of the Hamilton Caravan Park, but managed to dislodge the car from the accident site and drove off again before being apprehended by police.
The vehicle was extensively damaged, along was the fence.
Luckily for residents of the caravan park, and the drink driver, some trees lined the fence on the park side and where the vehicle hit, a pole took most of the impact, which ensured no further damage was done.
