Meres’ Andrews, Holmes celebrate successful season
THE Heathmere Football Netball Club looked back on the year that was within the South West District Football Netball League across Friday and Saturday, celebrating with best and fairest awards nights.
In the senior football high-flying recruit Josh Andrews took away the club’s best and fairest award, narrowly beating ruckman Joel Nagorcka.
After deciding to make the switch from Portland to Heathmere early in the season Andrews went on to star in 12 matches and played an important role across the half back line in his team’s rise into finals for the first time in six years.
“I really wasn’t expecting a win, I thought I might sneak into the top five but it was a big surprise,” Andrews said.
“The biggest thing for me was making the move from Hampden to South West, I didn’t know too many people out at Heathmere and it was two completely different brands of football to adjust to.
“I definitely have focused on learning to win my own footy a lot more now that I’ve made the move.”
