Touch making final preparations ahead of season
ORGANISERS behind the scenes of the Portland Touch Football Association are hard at work in preparation for the 2017-18 season.
The season is set to begin on October 5, with the league hosting two come and try nights in the lead up to the opening round – the first on September 21 and the second September 28 – both beginning at 5.30pm at Henty Park.
During the off-season period the association has undergone a change of leadership, with Cameron Holman taking over the role of president and Kelly Hards signed on as secretary.
Former president Kelly Edwards will shift into the position of vice president and said it was shaping up to be an exciting season for the competition.
“We’ve had some pretty big changes away from the field while we’ve been getting ready for the next season,” Edwards said.
“Cameron Holman is stepping up as president of the association for the first time and he’ll be joined by Kelly Hards who is our new secretary.
“I’ll be staying involved as vice president across the next year and we’ll be doing lots of succession styled work and preparing for the future.
“It’s very much going to about the next generation taking over this season and it’s a really exciting time for the league with some big innovative ideas coming through.”
Registrations for the new season can be made at both come and try nights.
“Both nights are going to be a great opportunity for people who are interested in the game but have never played to come and experience a little bit of coaching.
“On the night we’re hoping to get our new teams together, the teams that are forming for the first time, and give them a chance to have a practice run, get to know one another a bit and get the legs warmed up.”
