Bupa nurses and carers stop work
UP TO 70 nurses and carers at Portland’s Bupa Aged Care were expected to take part in stop work meetings and a barbecue outside their facility yesterday afternoon.
Members of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation planned four hours of protests at nine Bupa facilities in Victoria, with the visible public action on Wellington Rd following extensive negotiations between the union and their employer.
“After 14 months of slow negotiations, Bupa’s latest 11.25 per cent wage offer over a three-year agreement only came once management knew nurses and carers were taking protected industrial action,” a union update on Saturday said.
“Disappointingly the new wage offer was followed by Bupa announcing proposed nursing redundancies.
“Bupa cannot improve resident care in its nursing homes by cutting nurses.
“An acceptable offer must address resident care, workloads and wages.”
