Plans for Australia’s largest wind farm lodged
CONFIDENCE at wind tower manufacturer Keppel Prince Engineering is at the highest level for several years after plans to build Australia’s largest wind farm at Rokewood near Ballarat made a further step forward recently.
Wind farm developer WestWind Energy has lodged a planning application with the State Government for the proposed development at Rokewood.
The $1.7 billion development would have more than 230 turbines, be spread across 17,435 hectares and have a generating capacity of 800 megawatts – enough to power 500,000 homes.
Keppel Prince general manager Steve Garner said the level of confidence within the industry going forward was the highest it had been for several years.
“The Rokewood proposal is still many years away and has to go through many permit and approvals processes – the proponents have a lot more work to do,” he said.
