Teen sensation victorious with Kangaroos open award
HAMILTON Kangaroos young gun Emily Kermeen was awarded The Hamilton Kangaroos Crawford-Quinn medal Saturday night finishing with a total of 56 votes. Coming into the evening Kermeen saw herself as a long shot for the award.
“I didn’t think I would be a chance as I was playing a new position,” she told The Spectator.
Success as an individual is something that Kermeen is no stranger to, as just two years ago she was crowned the 17-and-under Hampden best-and-fairest as well as representing Hampden during the interleague games on numerous occasions.
With 2017 being only Emily’s second full season as a senior netballer, the achievement was more impressive, as at just 18 years of age, she becomes one of the youngest players to ever have the medal placed around her neck.
Coming into the season, the teen’s main priority was to improve her skills and expand her game into different areas and positions, rather than focusing on individual success.
