Twenty20 victory for Monivae College’s First XI
MONIVAE College’s First XI cricket side played and defeated Daramalan College’s First XI on Monday as part of the visiting school’s cricketing tour of Victoria.
Visiting from Canberra, Daramalan is one of four Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) Catholic Schools around Australia; the others being Monivae College, Downlands Toowoomba in Queensland and New South Wales’ Chevalier Bowral.
The match was originally booked to be held at Monivae’s turf wicket, before being moved to KFC Oval at Pedrina Park.
With a soggy outfield, another move was made to the Pedrina Park (3) field at the back of the sporting precinct.
Representing the school, the match gave students gearing up for this week’s Hamilton and District Cricket Association A grade opener a chance to also blow away some winter cobwebs.
Playing the twenty20 format, Monivae batted first and posted a more than competitive total of 148 off its allotted overs
Scoring at over 7.4 runs an over, the runs tally was spearheaded by Hamilton Cricket Club’s A grade opener, Xave Stevens, with 35.
