Fiery Lench leads South to maiden win
SOUTH Portland has recorded its first win of the Portland and District Cricket Association season, defeating Gorae-Portland by seven wickets at Cavalier Park on Saturday.
South Portland won the toss in round five and sent Go-Ports in to bat first, quickly applying fierce pressure with fast bowler Shaun Lench leading the way.
With South’s co-captain Kye Taylor removing Go-Ports’ Zac Duncan for a duck the momentum soon swung in South’s favour, with the wickets of Andre Wallace, Stephen O’Brien, Stephen Easterbrook and James Cannon soon following.
Sinking as low as 5-40, Go-Ports fought back via Sam Roberts (11) and Joel Egan (26), momentarily holding back the tide with some disciplined batting, however with Lench producing breakthrough wickets the end of the innings was near for Go-Ports.
With Lench collecting his sixth wicket with the removal of captain Damien Compton, Go-Ports finished all out at 100.
