Healthy growth: Portland District Health reports busy times
PORTLAND District Health’s budget has grown past $40 million for the first time, in a reflection of growth and development at the Portland facility.
During the past five years, PDH has shifted its focus to become a specialist hospital, with up to 90 visiting specialists now visiting regularly, according to chief executive officer Chris Giles.
PDH’s annual general meeting on Thursday night marked five years at the helm for Ms Giles, and was an opportunity for her to document the changes over that period.
The developments have come with some challenges, she said, noting that the need to retain professional medical staff remains one of PDH’s greatest work force challenges.
“We have had success stories in recruiting medical staff, but one of the problems we have is keeping them here for longer than two to three years,” she said.
