Rebels kick off preseason training in Hamilton
THE next generation of representative footballers began their preseason on Monday night, with the Greater Western Victoria Rebels’ South West training squads kicking off in Hamilton.
Fifty-six players make up the South West training squads – 29 vying for a spot on the Rebels’ TAC Cup under-18 playing squad for the 2018 season, and the rest looking for a spot on the Rebels’ under-16 development list.
The Rebels have invited 150 footballers from across Western Victoria to take part in preseason training, with training bases at Hamilton, Ballarat, Horsham, Camperdown and Warrnambool.
Among those vying for a spot include Dartmoor duo Tylar Watts and Luke Bull, who were both part of the Rebels program in 2017.
AFL Victoria Western Region Development Manager Jock Whiting said the first night of training was promising.
“It was very good and we were very pleased with the outcome; we still had a few boys playing basketball and cricket, but we were really happy with both our groups,” Whiting said.
