Council employee apologises over removal of fallen tree
SOUTHERN Grampians Shire Council director of infrastructure, David Moloney has apologised to two elderly Vasey residents after they were forced to remove a fallen tree from a road after multiple failed phone calls to have the tree removed.
The fallen tree on Bells Lane in Vasey was spotted by a 65-year-old resident and her 84-year-old husband when driving last week.
The concerned couple believed the tree to be dangerous and rang the on-call SGSC phone line only to be told it was not a shire issue and to phone triple zero.
The Vasey woman suggested she did not want to block emergency services phone lines for an issue which was not yet considered to be an emergency, so she called the Cavendish police station, who were too busy to attend the scene in a timely manner.
