TWO more Casterton polocrosse players have been selected Victorian teams to play in the national championships.
Jamie Dowsley earned a well-deserved place in the Victorian senior mixed team while Dillan Carlin has been named in the under-12’s side.
Other representatives include Sam Allen, Kelly Allen, Phillipa Astbury, Sarah Steff, Will Hood and Hamish Carlin who, along with their coaches and teammates, are working hard preparing for the Australian National Championships.
Portland’s Yarraman Park was the venue for last weekend’s games which saw several firsts for Casterton’s D grade polocrosse team.
Sarah Chambers took number one position, Joel Reid joined the team for his first match and Bruce Caulfield rode a new horse. Despite a fine effort from Felicity Gillin, Dillan Carlin and Joel Chamberlain, the team still lost.
Matt Henry returned to the field for Casterton after a short break from the game. He was joined by Sarah Plush, and newcomer Chloe Ablitt, who along with Belinda Seamen, Justin Carlin and Jan Allen fought their opponents for every goal, but were unable to make it through to the finals.
Robert Plush and his pony Squiggles took out best number three and best horse respectively in the A reserve competition. Plush combined with Trent Edney, Kimberley Hood, best A reserve number one Scott Allen, David Caulfield and Graeme Steff to win convincingly over Naracoorte and be named Portland A reserve title holders, a position they must defend next match.
The next matches will be split between Lobethal in South Australia and Moorooduc, east of Melbourne. |
