SATURDAY’S semi final of the tennis was a disappointing result for Strathdownie, after being defeated by a much stronger Lawn team. Lawn won 8 sets 78 games to 1 set 53 games.
Lawn is remaining strong and focused each week.
On the other hand Wando Vale retain a second chance and possibly could eliminate Lawn this week in the preliminary final.
Catholic were successful defeating Wando Vale by a margin of 15 games.
Catholic men T. Robins, D. Stanbury and A. Elijah won 9-7, 9-8, lost 4-9 against J. Ryan, J. Tierney and M. Tomkins. Catholic ladies dominated winning three sets 9-4, 9-5, 9-1 against D. Tomkins, B. Tierney and J. Browning.
At the half time break Catholic lead by 15 games. In the mixed sets Catholic won 9-0, lost 3-9 and 6-9. The end result saw Catholic 6 sets 79 games to 2 sets 52 games.
Catholic now go into the grand final and eagerly await the out come of Wando Vale v Lawn.
B Grade finals provided some great entertainment and kept everybody on razors edge.
Coleraine men M. Beaton, R. Armstrong and J. Ward won 9-8, 9-5, 9-6, against Nareen's A. Harvey, M. Waters and P. Waters.
Coleraine women E. Hutchins, S. Warrnock and A. Hutchins won 9-4, lost 2-9, 2-9, against J. Bunge, D. Shaw and A. Waters.
At half time Nareen lead by one game. Coleraine mixed won 9-0, lost 2-9, won 9-8. End result Coleraine 6 sets 60 games to Nareen 3 sets 58 games.
Sandford White defeated Sandford Red 5 sets 63 games to 4 sets 56 games. Sandford
White now go into the grand final while this week Sandford Red play Coleraine.
This week A and B Grade finals are to be played at Lawn Courts for a 1pm start. |
