Council slams strategy
THE first shipment of mineral sands from the Port of Portland were loaded yesterday. Eight thousand tons of rutile were loaded on the Sea Maple. The ship was loaded using a mobile shiploader, pictured, which was modified (it was formally used for woodchips at Geelong) transported and re-assembled at the Port of Portland specifically for the mineral sands project. The ship is destined for Rotterdam in the Netherlands via Kwinana in Western Australia. The next shipment from the port is expected in August. Picture: DAVID STAFFORD
