PORTLAND Civic Hall will be awash with every colour imaginable during the Portland Dahlia Festival, this weekend.
Festival committee vice president Cliff Humphries said Portland’s festival was recognised as one of the best dahlia shows in Australia. He is expecting hundreds of entries for this year’s event, with competitors travelling to Portland from as far away as New South Wales. Mr Humphries noted there were also categories for cut flowers, floral art and photography, and he is encouraging children under 14 years of age to get involved in the junior section of the competition. Mr Humphries said a lot of growers struggled this season because it had been particularly dry, but he hoped this wouldn’t affect entry numbers. Entrants can register from 6am onwards on Saturday and judging will be held that morning. The show is open to the public from 11am to 5pm on Saturday and 9.30am to 4pm on Sunday. For more information contact Cliff Humphries on 5527 1272.
