PORTLAND Special School students have been
cracking down on people with untidy and chaotic
backyards.
For a small fee the school’s “backyard blitz team” offers
to complete landscape design, mowing, gardening and
any other odd jobs that need doing around the house,
with all funds raised going towards school camps and
the maintenance of the school’s gardening equipment.
The students are responsible for every part of the
program, including budgeting, managing the accounts,
getting quotes and even maintaining the gardening
equipment.
Teacher’s assistant Narelle Ross said the program
helped the students develop skills for life, including
independence, good communicative abilities and
confidence.
She said it would also give students the experience
needed to possibly enter the workforce.
Anyone interested in employing the backyard blitz
team should contact the Portland Special School on
5523 2218.
