A FIFTH Portland basketballer has been added to State selections after Stacey Rolph impressed at the Country Victoria trials.
The trials were for the under-18 and under-17 Victorian teams with the athletic Rolph selected to the latter for the Pacific Coast Slam in Port Macquarie on January 14-19.The selection comes days after fellow Portland Basketball Association members Jamie Blacksell, Kayla Pickert, Brianna Caldow and Nicola Handreck also received selection to Victoria.Basketball Victoria Country Council Participation Manager Ashley Donaldson confirmed Rolph’s selection yesterday. It wasn’t an easy road for Rolph after missing the Spring Classic team tournament due to not enough teams entering from this area.“She is selected to go to under-17’s Port Macquarie,” Donaldson said.It is a great opportunity for all players that are selected to the various Victorian teams and will give them exposure to basketball at an elite junior level.Donaldson also noted that Ebony Rolph was very close to making the cut this year and would be a player to watch out for in the future.
