HAMILTON sporting identity Peter Richards was found dead on a George St footpath early Sunday morning.
The avid runner was on one of his daily 6km morning runs when he was found by a passer-by lying on the footpath about 8.30am, opposite White Av.
George St shop owner John Hopkinson said a woman found the 53-year-old lying on the footpath and rushed to his shop for assistance.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said when crews arrived he was dead. Police are investigating.
Mr Richards was a long serving employee of Finchett Plumbing and was a former Hamilton footballer and A grade basketballer, who continued to play division three up until last year.
He is survived by his wife Joanne and two children Scott and Anna.
