PORTLAND and District Cricket Association star players Alister Stannard and Tony Aitken both suffered injuries during the opening day of round eight on Saturday.
Stannard injured his troublesome back at Hanlon Park against Tyrendarra while batting early in the day.
The batsman did return to the crease for the final wicket of the day, but it is likely he will miss at least the round nine clash against Drumborg-Heywood.
It is a cruel blow for Stannard who had not long ago returned to the field after an injury earlier in the season and now will miss the Bendigo Country Week campaign starting next week.
Aitken injured his hamstring while bowling against Portland Tigers at Cavalier Park.
The spearhead started the day very well with two wickets to his name in his opening six overs.
Aitken left the field straight away to assess the injury before returning and fielding in the slips.
It is unsure whether or not the left armer will miss any games or how severe the injury is.
