AN 18-year-old Lake Mundi man appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with culpable driving following an accident in Casterton in which a 72-year-old St Leonard’s woman died on Sunday night.
The accident occurred on the corner of McKinlay and Murray streets at about 5.30pm. According to Police a collision occurred between a Ford sedan that was travelling south along McKinlay St and a Holden Commodore that was travelling west along Murray St.
The female driver of the Ford, a local woman believed to be in her 60s, suffered minor injuries while a female passenger, 72, St Leonard’s, died at the scene
Ambulance Victoria said a male passenger, 75, with chest and pelvic injuries was flown by helicopter to the Hamilton Hospital before being airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he was in a stable condition.
All the injured where transported to Casterton Memorial Hospital for treatment after the accident and three of them were later transferred to Hamilton Hospital.
As at Monday morning, three of the injured were still in CMH, two in Hamilton Hospital and one in Royal Melbourne Hospital.
One person suffered neck injuries, another an ankle injury and a woman received hip and chest injuries.
Another woman was being kept for observation and a man was being checked for any injuries.
Ambulances from Casterton, Coleraine and Hamilton rushed to the scene and the CFA also attended.
