A 22-year-old female motorist lost control of her vehicle and collided with a fence and a tree after avoiding a collision with wildlife on Chatsworth Rd on Tuesday evening.
The incident occurred at about 5pm during wet weather conditions, when the woman avoided hitting a tortoise on the road.
Senior Constable Ian McNiven of Hamilton Police said wet weather conditions were a contributing factor in the accident.
“A woman was driving along east, she was trying to avoid running over wildlife on the road and as a result it seems she’s lost control of her vehicle and collided with a fence and a tree,” he said.
“The wet conditions could have been a contributing factor to the collision. It was a straight flat stretch of road and there were no other vehicles in the vicinity at the time.
“It appears she’s taken evasive action to avoid the animal.”
Considerable damage was caused to the vehicle, which has been declared a write-off.
The driver suffered minor abrasions and ambulance attended the incident.
