YOUNG cricketers from around the Portland district competed in the Commonwealth Bank Female State Championships in Melbourne last week.
Zoe Shepherd from Portland and Claire Nolte from Merino were members of the triumphant U14 Western Waves which secured back to back championships, and Portland’s Hannah Bunney played for the U16 Mallee Murray Heat.
Shepherd told the Portland Observer that “It was really fun… I had a great time, and I reckon all the other girls had a great time (too).
“We won all our games, so we were pretty happy about that.”
It was 12 year old Shepherd’s first time playing for the Western Waves and she said that the team was very excited to win the final against the Mallee Murray Heat.
