PORTLAND Powernats is a great possibility of becoming an annual event after its terrific response on Saturday.“
“Clint and Robyn Ogilvie, who organised the event, were absolutely ecstatic with the condition of the track, the weather conditions, and the response they got from the Portland people,” Fuchs South Coast Raceway’s Greg Holland said.
“Everyone had an absolute ball and there were nothing but smiles … they’re going to have a meeting with the council and try and get their own race dates.”
The action began on Friday with the promotional display at the intersection of Percy and Otway streets.
“It was a great day, it was nice and sunny and we had a heap of people come through to have a look at the cars,” Holland said.
Friday’s Street King Challenge saw Luke Falcone win and Mathew Hoggan placed second in the car section, and Kevin Donovan and Jason Cobby placed first and second in the Bike Section.
Daniel Page won the Wilful Damage Burnout Comp out of a large field of nearly 20 entries, getting some practice in for the following day at Powernats.
Friday’s winners all earned free entry into the Portland Powernats, which Holland said was “a great day had by all.”
“Sixty-seven cars from all over the country came down to cruise the track and have some fun, and to compete for some good prizemoney and trophies,” he said.
“The crowd on the hill enjoyed every minute of it.
