WOMEN can have a “hit and a giggle” as they learn the basics of squash on Friday.
Squash Victoria, with the Portland Squash and Racquetball Club, is running a six week program for women to learn and practice the basics of squash in a social, non-intimidating and fun environment.
“It’s the perfect opportunity for people who have never played before or who have perhaps played squash in the past, but are a little bit rusty,” the program’s coach Carrie Templeton said.
“It’ll give them the basic skills, and hopefully it’s going to be a very social atmosphere so that they can make some new friends.
“It’ll give you an opportunity to meet some different people in a very active and healthy environment … rather than going to meet new people at the pub, for example,” Templeton said with a laugh.
Templeton, who is an accredited squash coach, enthusiastically promoted the health benefits of squash.
“It works absolutely every muscle in your body; your mind, your heart, your arms and legs … it’s a brilliant cross-training sport,” she said.
The Hits and Giggles program will allow participants to meet people of a similar skill level that they can continue to play with, and the club is hoping for people to go on to join the competition.
