MONIVAE Flames, College Towers and Minders Blue were first round victors of the Hamilton Amateur Basketball Association’s women’s competition, starting the season in good touch.
The match of the night was played out between Monivae Flames and Monivae Suns with the former jumping the Suns early in the first half.
Laura Addinsall was a first half hero for the Flames, scoring 10 points out of 33, while the Suns were slow starters, trailing by 19.
Sisters Clare Crawford and Hannah Kearney were working hard for the Suns but needed help from their teammates.
It was an improved effort in the second half by the Suns’ players, equalling the score on the board with the Flames.
Amelia Ross stepped it up, as did Megan O’Dowd, shooting seven and six points respectively in the second half.
