DUNKELD residents have banded together to support a local family who lost their two young children in a heartbreaking house fire yesterday.
The parents tried to save their three-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter in the early hours of the morning after waking to a blaze and hearing them cry out for them.
Tragically, police believe the two children died in the inferno which occurred just before 3am yesterday.
The fire also totally destroyed the family’s weatherboard house.
The Dunkeld community is in mourning after waking to news of the tragedy, and newsagency owner, Nikki Parker said the community was devastated at the loss of two much-loved children.
The shocking ripple effect of the incident was seen when the Dunkeld school bus slowed down when passing the Blackwood-Dunkeld Rd property.
