PORTLAND will round out the practice match phase of its preparation for the 2012 Western Border Football League season with two home matches this Saturday.
The Tigers will host Koroit in Under-18 and senior contests.
Traditionally the Tigers have travelled to Koroit, but the completion of the 2011-12 cricket season last weekend has freed up Hanlon Park and provides the Tigers with an opportunity to play a home practice match.
“It’s going to be handy for us to have a bit of a run-around on our home turf,” senior playing coach Jarrod Holt told the Portland Observer.
“We travelled to Horsham on the weekend just gone, so it’s good not to have to travel again.”
Holt described the practice match against the Horsham Saints as a “good hit-out.”
“It was a pretty even contest between the two sides,” he said.
“We played a lot of young guys who did really well … a lot of Under-18 players.”
Holt said these players continued to show a lot of promise and maturity.
