THE DARTMOOR community is looking to rejuvenate its hall when it holds the Dartmoor Ball in the Hall next month.
The ball will be the major fundraiser for 2012 for the Dartmoor Football Netball Club (DFNC) and aims to bring together the community.
“We have watched other clubs around the district have successful balls in recent years and we thought why not bring our wonderful old hall back to life,” DFNC committee member Liz McKinnon said.
“Since the closure of the mill, the town hasn’t had much to celebrate apart from our grand final win last season. We thought why not get all past and present players, club supporters and former Dartmoor locals together to celebrate at the hall.”
The last time a major function was held in the hall was a number of years ago when the mill closed.
“That was hardly a celebration. Since then there have been a few 21st parties, funerals, and the bowlers go in to enjoy a cup of tea.
“We thought why not bring the hall back to life – it was once the hub of the community and what better way to do it then get all the locals together for a big celebration.
The funds raised will go towards major works at DFNC including the resealing of the netball courts for the 2013 season and possibly a playground for all the junior members of the club.
