WESTERNS scored a thrilling one-goal victory against Tyrendarra in Saturday’s big South West netball A Grade showdown.
In freezing cold conditions, Tyrendarra played host to Westerns.
With only one court being available, the A Grade game did not start until 3.45pm.
Tyrendarra came out firing with a new line-up in its defensive end.
Lisa Maddison moved from wing defence to goalkeeper to cover the absence of tall Toni Kent, while Bree Phillips played at wing defence.
Both teams played “fumbly” netball in the conditions, with some passages of play working brilliantly and others not worth writing about.
Westerns’ tight defence made it difficult for Tyrendarra to get the ball out of the centre.
Jodie Mayberry and Lee-Anne Nelson both read the play beautifully and took numerous intercepts.
Kayla Pickert had a slow start to the game, while Nicole Rundell converted well from the start.
