HEATHMERE is going into its South West football clash with Heywood tomorrow upbeat, and is focusing on being competitive and developing their squad.“We’re very confident we’re going to be competitive in the game; being a home game for us, we want to make sure it’s going to be a tight contest,” Heathmere coach Chris Fleming said.
The Meres will probably have five or six changes with players returning from injury.
Rhys Gadsden, Toby Puche, Alister Stannard, Andre Wallace and Bob Wilson are likely inclusions.
The side is coming into the game with a positive mind-frame after their 11.14 (80) to 6.4 (40) loss to Dartmoor last week.
“It was one of our better team performances,” Fleming said.
“We do take a lot of confidence away from last week because Dartmoor’s a side that beat Heywood, and even though we got beaten by five goals we thought we were in the contest all day.
“We’ve had a tough year as far as losing a lot of players, but we’re really starting to bond together and at the moment we feel like a united group,” Fleming said.
“The guys proved last week that if everyone has a red hot dip that we can push sides.”
Heathmere outscored Dartmoor in the second (1.3 to 1.0) and fourth (3.0 to 0.7) quarters.
The Meres are looking forward to tomorrow’s contest.
