PORTLAND basketball star Ebony Rolph has triumphed at the National 3×3 competition as part of the Victoria Country Under-18 women’s team.
Vic Country’s team of four was new to the tournament structure and had only one training session prior to taking to the court in Sydney last week.
The team won eight of its 10 preliminary rounds, and then overwhelmed Queensland in the semi-final, 16-11.
This put Vic Country into the gold-medal game against close rival Vic Metro, in what was to be the side’s ultimate challenge of the tournament.
When the sides met in Round Four of the tournament the result went Metro’s way by two points, however, a solid effort from Vic Country saw them get over the top in the grand final to win in a 13-12 nail-biter.
In 3×3 basketball, games are played on one half of the court, and baskets from inside the arc are worth one point, and shots from outside are worth two points.
