REMEDIATION work on a tank that leaked pitch at the Port of Portland in February was completed at the weekend.
Nick Moretti, operations manager at Koppers Australia, which own the tank, said the cleaning out of the inside of the tank had been completed on schedule.
“This now completes the entire clean-up task which was carried out in two stages that were both done on schedule,” Mr Moretti said.
During the week engineers from WorkSafe Victoria and Koppers will assess the condition of the tank and determine what repairs or other action should be taken.
“Koppers has maintained close communications with all stakeholders including the local community and will continue to keep all interested parties well informed as and when there is news to report,” Mr Moretti said.
