DURING a recent well-publicised international sporting event, the Portland YMCA promoted fitness, especially among the very young, encouraging them to ‘Go for Gold’ and ‘Find the Champion within’.
Colouring-in competitions were held in Observer Kids, with $300 of valuable sporting accessories and equipment going to talented artists.
Meanwhile, readers were also looking for their own medals, while Aussies were in London facing more gruelling challenges. Armchair athletes were invited to clip medal tokens from the newspaper and, by collecting a set, they were able to enter the Portland YMCA and Portland Observer joint promotion for an Access-All-Areas Gold Pass, valued at $800, which opens up the ‘Y’ to the winner for all classes, sporting activities, and facilities including spa, sauna and gym for 12 months.
Describing her ‘Go for Gold’ win as ‘absolutely awesome’, Kristi Pratt, of Heywood, was ecstatic! As a present part-time user of the YMCA, the pass will expose her to even more facilities and classes, as often as she likes, for the coming year. Who knows, she might just find her champion within in time for Rio in 2016!
