WANNON Water has slashed a quarterly water bill for a commercial property at Heywood from more than $26,000 to less than $600 following an investigation.
Fred Wilson who owns property at 71-73 Edgar St, was in shock last month when he received a water bill for the property for more than $26,000 and water usage of 7.5 million litres.
Mr Wilson usually splits the bill 50-50 with an existing tenant — Hollyrock milk bar and takeaway operators John and Mary Wallace — because the other section of the property, the former Foodworks Supermarket premises is vacant.
Wannon Water’s investigations found there was a leak at the property, but the rate of leakage was inconclusive.
It decided as part of its review to reduce the bill to the average bill paid by the parties during the corresponding period for the past three years.
