A BLAME game has developed after two of Hamilton’s major business centre redevelopments have been delayed possibly indefinitely.
The projects, announced in 2011, promised exciting new retail opportunities in Hamilton.
The Hub redevelopment, planned to make over Hamilton’s The Hub shopping precinct, with new stores and larger premises for the department store, Harvey Norman Hamilton.
The Coles redevelopment, centred around the supermarket and including land occupied by the former The George Hotel Motel, also promised new retail stores as well as a bigger Coles supermarket and a liquor store.
But instead of the sounds of machinery on building sites, all that can be seen from both areas is limited information and an increasing number of empty shops.
‘Although council has not received amended plans for The Hub, it understands that planning for the new development is also proceeding,’ – Southern Grampians Shire futures director, Michael McCarthy.
Safety concerns were raised following trespasser reports and an alarming amount of damage to The George motel rooms.
