IF CANDIDATE preferences are an indicator of the upcoming election, the make-up of council won’t be too different in a month’s time.
Councillor Geoff White is the only incumbent not to receive enough preferences to place him in the top seven candidates, making enough room for two first timers, Mary-Anne Porter and Max Oberlander.
Mr Oberlander is the most popular amongst the candidates, receiving a preference in the top seven from all 11 candidates.
Mr Oberlander was surprised by the results and emphasized the importance of having seven good councillors, saying his preferences were based on character of candidates as well as strategy.
