A LONG promised overpass on theHenty Highwayis expected to be completed by 2014 after the State Government released its draft plans yesterday for the $4.3 million project.
The overpass will replace theHenty Highwaytraffic lights near the Fawthrop Lagoon and extend over the adjacent rail-line, reducing brake noise from trucks and increasing the safety of pedestrians and school children that use the crossing daily.
The draft plans released yesterday by Member forSouth West Coast, Denis Napthine, will be made public in the coming weeks by VicRoads for community consultation.
If the plans are accepted, construction will begin in 2013 for a 2014 finish.
“It will be a similar concept and similar height to existing overpasses… it will fundamentally make it safer for children than a pedestrian crossing and stop any rare occasions where children press the button and run across anyway,” Dr Napthine said.
