PORTLAND’S two Rotary Clubs have cooperated to donate $250,000 to the Rotary House project in Warrnambool.
The Rotary clubs ofPortlandandPortlandBayeach donated $125,000 during a dinner at Sandilands on Monday night.
The money was sourced from the estate of Rotarian Andrew Jack, who died last year after a short illness. It had been his desire to see Rotary House completed, and the donations will ensure this happens.
Rotary House will be built on land offTimor St, opposite South West Healthcare’sWarrnamboolBaseHospital, and will provide low-cost accommodation for families and relatives of patients from throughout the far south-west who have to undergo medical treatment in Warrnambool.
Without the house, families of patients either have to commute or pay for motel or other accommodation while their loved one undergoes treatment.
Rotary Club of Portland president Steve Ellis and Rotary Club of Portland Bay president Annette Ryan each presented Rotary House committee chairman Andrew Suggett with cheques on Monday night, at a function attended by 21 Warrnambool Rotarians.
