AN 18-year-oldDartmoorman was killed on Sunday night when his vehicle left theHenty Highwaynear Milltown.
Investigators believe the man was travelling south on the highway when his car left the road and struck a tree at around 11pm.
An off-duty nurse and emergency services personnel worked to save the man, but he died at the scene.
Portlandpolice, the Myamyn CFA truck, three CFA vehicles from Heywood and about 11 firefighters attended the incident.
Heywood CFA group officer Darren Hoggan said a gas cylinder in the car exploded as a result of a fire caused in the accident, shortly after the arrival of the Myamyn fire truck. Although he was more than 7km from the incident at the time, Mr Hoggan said he clearly heard the explosion.
