A 20-YEAR-OLDPortland man yesterday died after being shot in the stomach during an incident on Barkly Street on Monday.
The man was taken to Portland’s emergency department by two other men just before 5.30pm on Monday, and underwent surgery once a specialist unit of doctors from Melbourne, known as the Adult Retrieval Team, flew in to stabilise him.
The team then airlifted him toRoyal Melbourne Hospital at 1am, where he died hours later, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokesman.
A 26-year-old man was arrested at aWillunga Street house in relation to the shooting and is expected to soon appear in a Warrnambool court.
Homicide squad detectives arrived inPortland yesterday morning to take over the investigation.
Roughly an hour after the shooting a brawl between at least six people armed with knives and bats broke out on Barkly Street, but police are yet to confirm if it was related.
