SECURITY has been stepped up at the Barkly Street Store following a wild brawl at the front of the shop on Monday evening.
Police have remained tight-lipped on whether there were any links between the parties involved in the brawl and a shooting in Barkly St about two hours earlier.
Store proprietor Shaun Smith said two female shop assistants in the shop had contacted police around 7pm after three men, believed to be aged in their mid to late 20s, started brawling on the footpath at the front of the shop.
A baseball bat was used during the brawl which lasted about five minutes.
It is believed there were customers in the store at the time the brawl broke out.
The two assistants, one senior and one junior aged 18, were understood to be visibly shaken by the violent incident.
A senior assistant at the store yesterday said it was fortunate that none of the younger junior staff were working on the night.
“I am very sure if they had been working that night they would not have been able to cope with the incident,” she said.
